Get Successful Breast Cancer Treatment By Including Complementary And Alternative Therapies

Holistic therapist shouldn't be used in place of medical breast cancer treatment, but it can help treat your emotional needs that will make your overall state of being as well as helping with the side effects such as vomiting and nausea. Sometimes, holistic treatments will prolong a patience life, some times by years.

Chemotherapy along with surgery is traditionally the most common form of treatment for breast cancer. However, recently, holistic treatments have become more popular. The reasons for this are many, but the usually, it is because the patient doesn't want to endure chemotherapy or surgery, or feels there is a better way to combat the disease.

The Problem Of Traditional Breast Cancer Treatment

Modern medicine claims that if the cancer is caught early enough, breast cancer treatments like radiotherapy or chemotherapy can help the patient lead a long and active life. However, it has been proven that if chemotherapy is used too soon, it may actually shorten the life of the patient.

Another risk of modern medicine is using mammograms as an early diagnostic tool, rather than preventative. Mammograms will sometimes give false positives and leave some women enduring treatments, only to find out later they may never have had cancer at all.

When mistakes happen with traditional breast cancer treatments, harmful side effects may shorten, rather than prolong a patient's life.

Getting Help By Alternate Therapies

Serious heath problems such as breast cancer are being treated more frequently by holistic medicine. Holistic therapies go beyond the traditional remedies that only treat mainly the body. Holistic medicine also treats the mind and spirit as well. It is important to note that, even though you may experience fewer side effects with holistic medicine, you don't choose to forgo traditional medicine, but add holistic practices to it.

Also, it is important to remember that just as there are side effects of chemotherapies and other types of medical treatments, there are side effects to using holistic breast cancer treatments as well. However, there have been many studies done that show patience frequently live longer than what doctors had estimated they would.

Women fighting breast cancer may seek out holistic therapists to detoxify her body. The therapist would use Naturopathy to detect certain toxins in the body. After this, kinesiology is employed to check the body's energy fields. After checking these two items, the therapist can put together a course of treatment that will revolve around natural remedies.

There are many types of detoxifying programs that may be used during breast cancer treatment. One is to cleanse the liver and involves black walnut, wormwood and cloves. There are also detoxifying programs for the mind to help patience achieve a better emotional state.

Holistic therapies help by ridding the body of deep-rooted toxins; also by treating your mind so you can better fight the disease of breast cancer. When a patient is first diagnosed with cancer, it can lead to fatigue and stress within the body and mind. Once you can focus on the treatment, your chances of beating cancer increase. It is important to keep mind body and spirit in good health.

Seeking breast cancer treatment from a holistic therapist is perfectly all right as long as you don't forgo traditional breast cancer medicine. While holistic treatments may take away some of the symptoms traditional medicine have, it should not be a substitute for medical advice. Keeping your mind calm will help in receiving treatments.

Summary:

Holistic therapist shouldn't be used in place of medical breast cancer treatment, but it can help treat your emotional needs that will make your overall state of being as well as helping with the side effects such as vomiting and nausea. Sometimes, holistic treatments will prolong a patience life, some times by years.

Symptoms & Diagnosis Of Breast Cancer

Symptoms:
Early breast cancer usually does not cause pain. In fact, when breast cancer first develops, there may be no symptoms at all.
But as the cancer grows, it can cause changes that women should watch for:

- A lump or thickening in or near the breast or in the underarm area;
- A change in the size or shape of the breast;
- Nipple discharge or tenderness, or the nipple inverted into the breast;
- Ridges or pitting of the breast (the skin looks like the skin of an orange); or
- A change in the color or feel of the skin near the areola.

A woman should see her doctor about any symptoms like these. Most often, they are not cancer, but it's important to check with the doctor so that any problems can be diagnosed and treated as early as possible.

Diagnosis:
To help find the cause of any sign or symptom, a doctor does a careful physical examination and asks about personal and family medical history. In addition, the doctor may do one or more breast exams:

Clinical breast examination: The doctor can tell a lot about a lump by carefully feeling it and the tissue around it. Benign lumps often feel different from malignant ones. The doctor can examine the size and texture of the lump and determine whether the lump moves easily.

Mammography: X-rays of the breast can give the doctor important information about a breast lump.
Ultra-sonography: Ultra-sonography of both the breasts can often show whether a lump or lesion is a fluid-filled cyst (not malignant) or a solid mass (which may or may not be cancer). This test also tells about the total spread out of the disease in your breasts.

Biopsy: Often, fluid or tissue must be removed from the breast so the doctor can make a diagnosis. A woman's doctor may refer her for further evaluation to a surgeon or other health care professional that has experience with breast diseases. These doctors may perform:

- Fine-needle aspiration: A thin needle is used to remove fluid and/or cells from a breast lump. If the fluid is clear and there are no malignant cells then it is not necessary to perform further tests.
- Needle biopsy: Using special techniques, tissue can be removed with a needle from an area that looks suspicious on a mammogram but cannot be felt. Tissue removed in a needle biopsy goes to a lab to be checked by a pathologist for cancer cells.
- Surgical biopsy: In a surgical biopsy, the surgeon cuts out a sample of a lump or removes all of the lump or suspicious area and an area of healthy tissue around the edges. A pathologist then examines the tissue under a microscope to check for cancer cells.

Breast cancer can be easily curable if it is diagnosed at a early stage. Depending on the grade of the cancer treatments like chemotherapy and radiation can be done after the surgical biopsy.

10 Important Steps To Beat Your Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the United States and it is the second most common cause of cancer death in men over age 55. The incidence of prostate cancer increases dramatically with each decade after 50. Fortunately, prostate cancer tends to be slow-growing compared to many other cancers – the majority of prostate cancers either do not spread or cause any significant harm for decades.

In general, men run a 1-in-6 chance of developing prostate cancer at some point in their lives. More than 230,000 new cases are expected this year in the United States, with about 27,000 deaths.

Most men will choose conventional treatment, often surgery or radiation, but there are life-changing potential side effects they need to be aware of, and discuss with their doctors.

Surgery, called a prostatectomy for the surgical removal of the prostate gland, means impotence for about 75% of the men choosing this path, according to a September 2004 study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. Also, about 14% of the men were incontinent – could not control their bladder – five years after the operation.

With standard radiation therapy, the odds of impotence are about the same, 73%. The incontinence rate was much lower, just under 5%. There are new radiation therapies we discussed in the new guidebook How To Beat Your Prostate Cancer that have better outcomes.

No matter what conventional therapy a man chooses, if he does nothing else there is a 30% to 40% chance that his cancer or another cancer will recur. That’s because his immune system was not strong enough to protect him from the first cancer, and if he does nothing it will be no stronger the next time it is needed. In addition, radiation and chemotherapy depress the immune system, leaving it weaker than it was before you got treatment. Finally, any cancerous cells that survive the radiation and chemotherapy treatments, or escape the surgeon’s knife – and a few ALWAYS do – must be cleaned up by the immune system. Yet those cells that survived radiation or chemotherapy are, by definition, the strongest mutant cells. Cells that survive chemotherapy even have their own name: Multi-drug resistant. All of this means that if a man’s cancer recurs, the cure rates the second time around are much, much lower – on the order of 5% survival.

So even if a man chooses conventional treatment, the information and advice on alternative treatments in How To Beat Your Prostate Cancer is very important for his recovery and continued good health.

Here are 5 of the 10 important steps covered in a Free Report by the authors of How To Beat Your Prostate Cancer that have worked for others:

1. Pick a doctor carefully. The numbers above on impotence and incontinence are pretty scary. Top surgeons who perform hundreds of these operations tend to have better numbers, and you should ALWAYS get the statistics in advance from any doctor before you let them treat you. Remember that if you are talking to a surgeon, he probably will want to operate. If your doctor is a radiation oncologist, don’t be surprised if he pushes radiation. A clinical oncologist might counsel chemotherapy. Always consider the source. If you want to try alternative therapy first, since you really are not pressed for time, choose an alternative doctor or health care practitioner just as carefully.

2. Boost your immune system. If you’re going to undergo conventional treatment, you need to boost your immune system to deal with the impact of chemotherapy and radiation. You also need to clean up the remaining cells after therapy, and then build back your immune system so cancer does not recur. If you are going to pursue an alternative treatment path while you have the time, boosting your immune system is Job #1. Several chapters in How To Beat Your Prostate Cancer show you how to do that.

3. Alkalize your internal environment. Cancer cells are highly acidic, and cancer can’t live in an alkaline environment. You can test your pH level with test strips from the pharmacy or health food store. It should be over 7.0, preferably in the 7.2 to 7.4 range. If your internal body environment is acidic, it makes it much easier for cancer to grow and metastasize. Prostate cancer often metastasizes to the bones, making it much harder to beat.

4. Get more oxygen to your cells. Cancer hates oxygen. In the lab, when they are doing an experiment where they want cancerous cells to grow quickly, they simply turn down the oxygen. When they want to stabilize the experiment, they turn the oxygen back up. The same is true of your body.

5. Take vitamins and supplements. If you eat the Standard American Diet, you are eating fruits and vegetables grown on depleted soil, picked too early so they won’t ripen and spoil while they’re in the distribution chain, and then probably overcooked. Even if you are eating organic fruits and vegetables, grass-fed pastured meat and raw milk, you still can’t get the massive amounts of vitamins and supplements you need to let your immune system overcome a cancerous tumor that has become established. You must take high-quality vitamins and minerals, digestive enzymes and specific anti-cancer supplements like those recommended in Chapter 7 of How To Beat Your Prostate Cancer.

Colon Cancer

Colon cancer occurs in the large intestine or the large bowel and is a very common kind of cancer, second only to lung cancer in occurrence. The risk of colon cancer is higher in certain groups and ethnicities, as well as in people living in Western industrialized countries. The positive side is that colon cancer also has a very high rate of cure and survival.

Colon cancer is also known as colo-rectal cancer. The large intestine has two sections: the upper portion is the colon and the lower portion is the anus or the rectum. Cancer in the large intestine can spread over both regions, which gives it the name colo-rectal cancer. The colon absorbs water and nutrients during food digestion. The rectum, on the other hand, serves to expel waste material from the body. There are four parts to the colon, and cancer can start developing in any of these parts.

The cancerous growth in the colon usually starts as a polyp. A polyp is a small tissue growth. This polyp will grow into the colon and if left untreated it can develop into cancer over a period of time. A specific type of polyp, called adenomacan, is the primary seed of colon cancer. On an average, it takes 5-10 years for a polyp to reach a diameter of about .5 inch. This takes a further 5-10 years to develop into cancer.

Though 20 years seems enough to detect and treat cancerous development, it is difficult to discern any growth for several years. Thankfully, there are many diagnostic techniques available to successfully detect any cancerous growth or polyps. Some common techniques used in diagnosing and treating colon cancer are barium enemas, sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, and biopsy. Apart from this, patients can be screened to discern any blood in the stool or unexplained iron deficiency to find out if there is any polyp or cancer developing.

Colon cancer is a widespread disease, and a lot of research is underway to increase survival rates and aid early diagnosis. There are also many foundations that aid colon cancer patients and provide information to people.

Canadian Cervical Cancer Breakthrough - 2006

Recently Health Canada approved a vaccine that protects women against the virus responsible for most cases of cervical cancer.

Garadasil is the first vaccine against the human papilloma virus (HPV) that infects half of all sexually active women between the ages of 18 and 22. Apparently this vaccine has proven 97 per cent effective in protecting women from forms of HPV that cause most cervical cancers.

This virus HPV (human papilloma virus) is very very highly contagious being spread by mouth – to – mouth contact with the genitals or anus of the infected person. At least 80 % of North American women of reproductive age will be exposed to HPV in their lifetime. This hardy contagious virus infects cells inside and outside of the body, including surfaces of the skin, lining of the mouth, tongue, throat, tonsils, vagina, penis, cervix and anus.

Women and men who have ever had a sexual encounter, even without penetration can readily contact HPV. You may have HPV and not even know it because there are often no apparent signs or symptoms. You may not even realize that you are a silent carrier spreading the virus.

Some types of HPV can cause common skin warts and plantar wares (that is warts on the soles of the feet). In addition there are more than 30 other types of HPV viruses with other symptoms as well.

This new breakthrough vaccine Garadasil protects against 4 different HPV virus types.

The vaccine is given by injection 3 times over a three month.

Geradasil is believed to prevent cervical cancer, vaginal cancer, precancerous lesions and genital warts – all caused by the HPV viruses.

Our immune systems are amazing in that in most cases a women's immune system keeps HPV at bay. However for some unknown reason in some cases the HPV infections linger and persist over time. This can lead to cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer can be picked up early with routine Pap smear tests.

A Pap test is a simple test where your general practitioner (GP), Obstetrician or other health care provider takes a couple of cells from your cervix for laboratory exam.

The Pap test is a very simple, standard painless exam which should be done on a regular basis especially if you have had cervical cancer in your family.

The sad fact is that most women who are diagnosed with cervical cancer have never had a Pap test or not had one in five years.

This is especially sad and tragic as caught early enough cervical cancer has a very high cure rate.

The introduction of Geradasil in Canada may substantially reduce the incidence of cervical cancer in Canada. However the vaccine does not prevent infection from all 100 – 200 strains of the HPV virus: therefore it must be emphasized and stressed greatly that this is not a cure all. Women must still get a Pap smear test on a regular basis. Having this new vaccine does not mean that cervical cancer is cured for everyone. Prevention with regular routine PAP tests is still essential for most women.

The development of Geradasil vaccine is a medical breakthrough; some doctors want the vaccine to be available through mass immunization. The vaccine is effective only if given before infection with HPV, so an individual needs to become vaccinated before becoming sexually active. Currently in Canada Health Canada gas approved it for females between the ages of 9 to 26 years.

The Geradasil vaccine product is now available in Canada, the United States and Mexico currently.

All You Wanted to Know about Cancer Detox System

The recent cancer researches have revealed a sensational fact: it is our own system that writes out your destiny as to whether you will develop cancer in your life time and if yes when and how. How is this possible? Let's put it simply.

The recent cancer researches have revealed a sensational fact: it is our own system that writes out your destiny as to whether you will develop cancer in your life time and if yes when and how.How is this possible? Let's put it simply.

Following everyday metabolism, a sea of harmful chemicals is manufactured within our own body. Oxygen radicals, superoxide, free radicals, and electrophiles are a few examples of these toxic substances. These chemicals cause most of the cancers in humans. You will not believe it, but this is the fact: every second of your life, these toxic cancer-causing chemicals are produced within the cells of your body.
The outside pollutants like indirect smoking, pollutions in the work place etc stimulate the production process of these harmful chemicals in the body.

But the silver line in the cloud is that: human beings have their own built-in Cancer Detox mechanism that works every moment to protect the cells from the attack of cancer-causing chemicals. All the cells comprising human body are armed with this Cancer Detox System which is the sum total of enzymes, and other anti cancer nutrients. The body's Cancer Detox System combines the processes of oxidation, reduction, conjugation, and hydrolysis.

Let us see what are those nutrients that build up the cancer detox mechanism inside our body.

- There are vitamins such as niacin, riboflavin and vitamins A, C, E, that are the part of body's cancer detox system.
- Among the minerals, selenium, copper, zinc and manganese, are important members of the Cancer Detox mechanism. They act as co-enzyme factors too.
- The elements like carotene, lycopene and tocotrienols along with vitamins A, C, E, support the Cancer Detox System, through their anti-oxidant properties.
- Then there are the extremely helpful enzymes like superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione, epoxide hydrolase, and a few more.

Thus it is the body's Cancer Detox System, not the immune system that actually fights against cancer-causing chemicals and protects the cells.

The activities of certain nutrients needs special mention. As for example, the enzyme called glutathione has the most versatile function; with the help of a mineral called selenium it can literally detoxify almost all types of toxic chemical. Glutathione keeps on regenerated by the enzymes called NAD and FAD, which contain niacin and riboflavin.

Then, vitamin C acts as the backbone of the detox system and convert the hydroxyl radicals into harmless substances.

The cancer detox diet is based on the principle of supporting the enzymes that are the part of Cancer Detox System and to replenish the vitamins and minerals that are exhausted through the normal functions of the body and through lifestyle abuses.

As such a cancer detox diet for an average weight person comprises of l5 to 25 grams of proteins inclusive of meat, fish, fowl, cheese, egg, milk, beans, nuts, and lentils, 4 to 7 servings of grain products, 3 servings of vegetables, 3 servings of fruits and 3 servings of dairy products. To get more enhanced effect, you can take multivitamin and mineral supplements along with an anti-oxidant booster.

Skin Cancer Prevention: 5 Ways To Protect Yourself From UV Rays

Skin cancer prevention measures can actively reduce your chances of developing skin cancer if you implement them in your daily routine. The most common form of cancer in the United States, tens of thousands of Americans contract skin cancer every year.

Skin cancer comes in three forms: basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma. Of the three, melanoma is the most dangerous and life threatening. Skin cancer claims the lives of approximately ten thousand Americans on an annual basis.

What causes skin cancer?

Overexposure to ultraviolet sunlight (UV rays) is believed to be the dominant external factor in a person’s development of skin cancer, although genetic factors can play a role. To protect yourself from UV rays, you should take the following 5 steps for proper skin cancer prevention:

1. Avoid Direct Sun Exposure: Avoid exposing your skin to direct sunlight during midday (generally from 10am to 4pm). This is the time when UV rays are most intense. Plan your schedule to avoid outdoor activities during these hours. Also, be aware that sand and snow reflect sunlight, so if you’re at the beach or a ski resort, direct sunlight can bombard you from every direction with UV rays.

2. Cover Yourself: When out in the sun, keep your skin covered. Wear long-sleeves and long pants if possible. Wearing a hat with a 3 to 4 inch brim all around is preferable. This will guard your neck and cheeks from dangerous prolonged exposure. Also note that dry, dark-colored garments offer the best protection.

3. Use Sunscreen Properly: You should always use sunscreen when enduring prolonged exposure in the sun. Find a sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor of at least 15 and read the directions for proper application. The higher the SPF, the higher the protection you will receive against dangerous sunburns. However, sunscreen does not offer “bulletproof” protection, and UV rays can penetrate water, so just because you feel “cool” in the water doesn’t mean you’re protected from sunburn.

4. Use Sunglasses That Block UV Rays: Making certain your sunglasses can block UV rays helps to guard your eyes from serious sun damage. The best constructed sunglasses should have a UV ray absorption rate of 99% to 100%. Never assume that darker lenses equal increased protection. UV rays are blocked by a chemical applied to the lenses. This chemical has nothing to do with the color of transparency of sunglass lenses.

5. Stay Away From Tanning Beds: It is a myth to believe that tanning beds and sunlamps are free of harmful UV rays. These cosmetic instruments might make your skin more attractive in the short-term, but they can significantly increase your risk of developing skin cancer in the long-term. Health professionals advise their patients to avoid them.

By implementing these 5 steps in your daily routine, you can significantly decrease your risk of developing skin cancer, while maintaining a healthy lifestyle that allows for proper exposure to the sun. Another important step in prevention of skin cancer is routine examination by a doctor. If skin cancer is detected early, then your odds of survival are markedly increased.
